Behind every transformation is a story of courage, and one of the most powerful journeys in our community belongs to a member who chooses to remain anonymous—but whose impact is undeniable. What started as a simple decision to prioritize their well-being became a life-changing commitment to growth, strength, and self-love. Through unwavering determination and countless small victories, they’ve proven that with the right mindset, anything is possible. Their journey is a beacon of hope, reminding us all that real change begins the moment you believe you deserve it.

Read about her inspiring journey to hopefully inspire YOU to take control of your own health and wellness!

To keep this Peak Wellness member anonymous, we will be using the name “Casey“.

We started off by asking Casey to tell us a bit about what motivated her to start their health and wellness journey.

PAIN – The motivation of my weight loss journey is the attempt NOT to be controlled and limited by sciatica back and leg pain.” says Casey. “I am a 72 yr old wife, mother, grandmother, and retired educator of 29 yrs. After replacement of both hips, mobility and motivation slipped away. Added to the pain were pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and the daunting label of morbid obesity. The last revelation came when the pain doctor said that my weight prevented medical help. I knew the only way to get better was to lose weight.

As a recovering alcoholic needs support such as AA, I need the support and accountability of a group outside of my family and friends. Peak Wellness was recommended and because there are no other opportunities locally, I knew I had to try. Another key to the journey was finding a mode of exercise that was non-weight bearing due to back and hips issues. We live in rural Nebraska and the nearest public year-round pool is about a 60-mile round trip away. I decided to purchase a recumbent exercise apparatus because I know exercise must be part of the program“.

Continuing to stick to her plan and trusting the process, Casey has been able to accomplish many achievements and she was gracious enough to share some of those with us!

I have an unusual way of measuring my weight loss that puts a bit of real life into the picture. I keep an account of how many 10# potato sacks I have lost. I have carried my share of potato sacks into our home feeding my husband and children. They are heavy and so when I envision my weight loss success, I think what it would be like to carry those extra sacks into the house, up the stairs, shopping, or even walking to the road to get the mail. I am getting close to not carrying 7 of those potato sacks and life is getting better.

Medically, my last visit at the local clinic for a bi-yearly checkup revealed that my A1C was now in the normal range, and I was no longer being labeled pre-diabetic. My blood pressure was within the normal range and my blood work showed no metabolic issues. My pain levels have become manageable with the support of chiropractic care and pain meds are being used on a limited level.

The little victories along the way include no longer having to use a walking stick or cane to get about. I can make meals and work in the kitchen without being in pain or in tears. I can walk to shop for groceries and other items in more than one store. My latest little victory was to tie my shoes while they were on my feet. I haven’t been able to do that for over 15 yrs“.

A-MA-ZING! Success is not always measured with the amount of weight that you lose, but through all the positive changes that impact the overall health and well-being of your life! Truly some amazing accomplishments for Casey.

With Peak Wellness, we provide 1-on-1 health coaching to guide and support anyone on their health and wellness journey. Statistics show that going on a health and wellness journey alone gives you a 76% success rate of losing the weight and maintaining that weight, while those that work with their friends and/or health coaches have a higher success rate of 95%.

We proceeded to ask Casey how our health coaches have helped her on her journey, and she says,

My visits from Peak Wellness are weekly scheduled phone calls. The coaches are personable and encouraging. The coaches listen and treat you as a unique individual as they share your wellness journey with you. They visit with you and share advice and ideas in a caring and positive manner. You never hear judgmental attitudes, only words to build you up and suggest ideas for the next step in your personal journey. Since this is not my first attempt at weight loss, my choice was the only thing that I knew would work. That meant counting calories, keeping a journal of my daily food intake and exercise, and eating a healthy menu of proteins and vegetables. Peak Wellness counselors endeavor to support you based on your ideas and knowledge of weight loss“.

We then asked Casey about her future goals for her health and wellness, and she says,

As I look into the future, there is more work to do. My journey of losing weight is not done. Every week there are new issues to address. New roadblocks sidetrack progress and being diligent and patient becomes more difficult. With my personal weight loss, I hope to be more mobile enjoying more time outside, with my grandkids, and with the young people of my community. I hope for more “little victories” as I challenge the loss of each potato sack. The biggest challenge will be to find the courage to maintain the lost weight and not return to old habits and unhealthy eating“.

As you read this blog, you have probably at some point in your life thought about going on a health and wellness journey. Whether it be for weight loss, to go off of medication, or simply just change the way you’re eating or exercising. But then, a little voice in our head comes and says things like “it’s way too expensive”, “I don’t have time to do any of this” or even “I’ve failed before, so why bother?”. There are so many mental roadblocks that keep people from starting a health and wellness journey.

Casey provided us with some great advice for those who are looking to start their own health and wellness journey. Here’s what she had to say,

Losing weight is a very personal matter. My advice to those who are thinking of beginning their own weight loss journey is to do this for themself. This journey must be about you first. It must be about finding health and wellness within yourself to ease the emotional and physical pain of being overweight. Others around you can enjoy your successes, but weight loss is for your benefit first.

My weight loss journey has NOT included any drugs or pills. When considering the costs of the many weight loss drugs advertised on the TV, Peak Wellness has been a financially reasonable venture. You matter, your health matters, and your well-being matters. Peak Wellness does a good job of helping you find your way.

Casey’s journey is a beautiful reminder that real, lasting change is possible—no matter where you start. Her commitment to herself, even in the face of uncertainty, shows the incredible impact that prioritizing health and wellness can have on every area of life. Her story isn’t just one of physical transformation—it’s one of empowerment, healing, and self-belief. Let her success be your spark. Because when you choose to invest in your well-being, you’re not just changing your body—you’re changing your life. You deserve to feel strong, energized, and whole. Start where you are, and take that first step toward a healthier, happier you.
